ABOUT US
ABOUT US
A notable benefit of our Operational Office Team is that the majority have done, and can and still do on occasion, the job of the drivers. We believe that this makes for a greater understanding of what is required by the client, allowing us to see and understand how a client’s request can be best served.

Tim Bird
Managing Director
With more than 40 years of experience across the transport and logistics sector, Tim has shaped P&S Bird from a small, family‑run operation into a trusted specialist provider with a reputation for reliability, integrity, and exceptional service. Dave Cray
Transport Coordinator
Dave joined P&S Bird in March 2024, but he was far from a new face to the business. Having spent 24 years as a key member of the Transport and Production teams at Kay Metzeler - a major client within the polystyrene industry that P&S Bird proudly served for four decades. Dave arrived with a deep, practical understanding of the sector and the unique demands of high‑volume freight.
His long-standing experience on the customer side gives him a rare dual perspective: he knows exactly what clients expect and understands the operational realities required to deliver it. This insight makes him an invaluable link between planning, drivers, and customer needs. Dave’s calm, organised approach and strong industry knowledge ensure that routes are coordinated efficiently, communication flows smoothly, and service standards remain consistently high.
As Transport Coordinator, Dave plays a central role in the day‑to‑day running of the operation. His reliability, attention to detail, and ability to stay composed under pressure make him a trusted point of stability within the team - someone who brings both experience and professionalism to every shift.

Matthew Alder
Transport Coordinator
Matt has been part of P&S Bird for most of his working life, joining the company at just 16 and growing with it ever since. Over the years, he has taken on almost every role imaginable; from building warehouses and laying water pipes to completing regular FORS Silver‑standard artic deliveries into Central London. His willingness to turn his hand to anything has made him one of the most versatile and dependable members of the team.
This breadth of experience gives Matt a deep, practical understanding of how the operation works from the ground up. Whether he’s coordinating routes, supporting drivers, or stepping in to solve problems on the fly, he brings a calm, capable presence and a strong work ethic that reflects the company’s values. His hands‑on background means he understands the realities of the job, and he uses that insight to plan effectively, communicate clearly, and keep the operation running smoothly.
As Transport Coordinator, Matt plays a key role in the day‑to‑day flow of the business. His reliability, adaptability, and long-standing commitment to P&S Bird make him a trusted and respected figure within the team - someone who embodies the company’s culture of hard work, pride, and getting the job done properly.
Chris Hooper
Network Coordinator
With decades of experience in the haulage industry, Chris joined P&S Bird three years ago as a Driver and quickly proved himself indispensable. His strong operational instincts, calm approach, and deep understanding of trunking and multi‑drop work made him a natural fit within the team from day one.
Following P&S Bird’s entry into the United Pallet Network, Chris transitioned into the Traffic Team, where he now plays a central role in managing trunk routes, coordinating staff, and overseeing the performance of our delivery fleet. His background behind the wheel gives him a practical, real‑world perspective that strengthens his decision‑making and ensures the network runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
As Network Coordinator, Chris brings structure, reliability, and a steady hand to one of the most time‑critical areas of the business. His experience, professionalism, and ability to stay composed under pressure make him a key figure in maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

OUR
DRIVERS
In addition to our Office Team, we value all our drivers who make up the P&S Bird Team.
At P&S Bird, we prioritise safety, skill, and environmental responsibility for all our HGV drivers through a comprehensive training program. Each of our drivers is required to hold a Driver Qualification Card, earned by completing 35 hours of classroom instruction over a five-year period. As a FORS Silver accredited company, we go above and beyond industry standards to ensure our drivers receive ongoing, high-level training.
Our drivers also participate in the Safe Urban Driving Course. This course includes a practical component where each driver experiences the road as a cyclist, for a deeper understanding of urban road safety. Additionally, our drivers attend LoCity training every two years, which focuses on economical driving strategies that reduce emissions and fuel consumption through defensive driving and efficient route planning, supporting our commitment to sustainability.
